Now it started to do it again. Calendar synchronisation stopped to function. Next I must again force calendar entries from Outlook to the phone. A few entries that I have on the phone will be lost. Rats!

iPhone
I happened to see the iPhone the other day. Or rather the PDA they did using the same platform. No phone, other features in. That was truly amazing. There is a bit work to be done by Nokia engineers to come up with equal - or hopefully superior user experience.
True, I did not have the gimmick in my own hands. I only saw it for a few passing minutes on a train. But it was sleek. Ah, it was tempting.. Now I have to find a way to rationalise that I simply must have one myself... 8-).. Even if it does not have a phone and I hate to carry many toys in mw pockets...

Flickr connection
Why do I waste my time with these things?
I have a Flickr account that I am succesfully using from my PC and from the WAP interface of Flickr on N73. Wap interface is limited but one can do some things with it if absolutely required.
I noticed that in the Gallery application of the phone there is an option "Open Online Service". When I select this I get question "Retrieve services now?"
When I answer "Yes" it takes a couple of seonds until an error message claiming that username or password are wrong is flashed on the screen. There is no indication on which username or password this is related to.
On the list on screen I can see an icon about creating a new Flickr account. I cannot see the account I have already created on this phone with that icon. The acount is visible if I select "Options " and "Settings"->"My accounts". Somehow this account does not seem to work.. Even if I have my Flickr (Yahoo) username and password right..
Why do these have to be so much not intuitive..

Predictive text in contacts / email addr
Funny thing is that predictive text input and how it has been used.
When you are writing an email with the phone you either pick the address from contacts or type the address in.
When you type address in the field settings are such that predictive input is off. You cannot change that. Fine, typically addresses are some line of gibberish anyway.
But when you add email address to a contact in the Contacts application of the phone different rules are in place. Predictive text can be set on. And it works. But only if you use english. It does not complain if i set another language on. It only uses English.
This is annoying since there are many addresses which have recipients real name there. Predictive entry would help.
Another stupid thing is the validation rule they have put on telephone number fields in contacts. You cannot paste numbers if they contain dash or space which typically often are in written down numbers.

PC Synch - surprises, surprises
I happened to check a contact on my phone. One of the 700 entries I have. Realised that the entry was strange. Two addresses had been mixed together.
This has happened before a few times. Some addresses / contact details get mixed. I have no understanding about the logic or when it happened.
Some times it only seems to happen.. 8-(
Most of the contacts are okay, but 0.5% or so go bad.. occasionally..
N73 joystick - no joy
It happened earlier this autumn. Joystick stuck into pressed down position. The phone was rendered useless. I did not dare to switch it on anymore. While joystick pressed on the phone starts to do things. And you can do nothing about it. With bad luck it wil delete your contacts.. Tought..
It took about two weeks for the repair shop to fix it. I hope it will stay healthy to the end of its life.. Such a small item which is so critical should not break that soon..

Got hit by PC Suite
I had phone synchronisation on and was working with excel. I decided that I want to send the excel sheet to a coworker. Selected file->send as attachment. And waited until got "Microsoft Office Excel hr waiting for another application to complete an OLE action" message box with an OK button only. I thought that right, I only wait until PC Suite has finished. Now it has finished and I am still in the same state. I cannot do anything. Word in the background hr equally locked. I hope I did remember to save since I now have to kill there processes. It could be that in Excel or Word there is a bug but I suspect that PC Suite could not handle another process trying to access mail at the same time. I do have these applications that hit you when you have the least amount of time...
